NCKU Habitecture

Year
2025
Location
National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan
Description

The NCKU Habitecture project is a temporary installation supporting multispecies habitat boxes, designed and built through a workshop led by Joyce Hwang at the National Cheng Kung University’s Department of Architecture. Engaging students in ideas around enhancing urban biodiversity and including fauna in design, the workshop encouraged students to learn about a number of species that inhabit Taiwan, and specifically the Tainan region. We were particularly interested in urban pollinators, specifically considering solitary bee species. Through a process of co-design, students worked together to construct the installation structure, mount their boxes on the structure, and arrange the structures in-situ in the NCKU Department of Architecture courtyard.
