Geographic and socio-economic regions function as “ecologies” of interdependences between human beings and animals. Today, technologically-advanced societies — such as the United States, as shown in our proposal — rely on animals to ensure a wide variety of “securities” which are often taken for granted, for example : human mobility, environmental maintenance, food security and even national security. Recognizing the network of animal-human relationships as an integral part of regional “eco-systems,” the REGIONAL ZOO aims to intensify these linkages by constructing interventions which mediate between the human and the animal world.
